Sea You at Dinner
Currently on view at De Koperen Tuin in Goes (October 31 – January 12), Sea You at Dinner is a solo art exhibition by Mylène Tax. Inspired by summer memories spent in Zeeland, the exhibition explores tables, conversations, playful leftovers, and the humor in everyday moments. ‘Shrimply the Best’ captures a playful, lively moment around the dinner table. In this painting, the remains of a shared seafood meal tell their own story — shells, crumbs, and scattered utensils hint at laughter, conversation, and the joy of being together. The work celebrates the small pleasures of summer evenings in Zeeland, where food, company, and the lingering light of the coast come together in a scene that feels both familiar and full of character.

‘Open Up to Me’ presents oysters fresh from the sea, resting on melting ice, with lemon slices ready and glasses catching the soft midday light. The table invites a moment of pause — to slow down, savour each taste, and enjoy the subtle rhythm of a shared meal. A knife lies ready, hinting at the next secret about to be revealed, the next conversation waiting to unfold.
The title Open Up to Me carries a playful double meaning. On one level, it refers to the oysters on the table, literally being “opened” to be tasted. On another level, it evokes the intimate, conversational atmosphere of the scene. An invitation for guests to share secrets, stories, and personal moments. The title perfectly reflects the series’ focus on tables as storytellers, where both food and conversation reveal hidden layers.
