THE BIRDS KNOW HER NAME

She is not simply a woman among birds and flowers. She is a love poem that chose to take form.

This is "The Birds Know Her Name", a piece I've been pouring my heart into, and today I'm finally sharing the full process with you. This one took a lot out of me in the best way possible.

I kept coming back to her eyes while painting this. There's something in that stillness that I didn't plan, it just appeared. The blue jays felt the same way, like they chose her, not the other way around. She didn't call them. They just knew.

I hope this work makes you feel something you don't quite have words for.

She is the centerpiece of my exhibition Goes en Passant, on view at De Grote Kerk in Goes.

Different drinks — prosecco, rosé and red wine — rest on the table, each with its own glow and character. The painting celebrates the joy of being together, the soft light dancing through the glasses, and the airy, playful atmosphere of a night winding down. It captures that familiar pause before the evening fades, when conversation lingers and laughter softens. At the same time, this work marks the final piece in the series, a sparkling farewell filled with warmth, light and a hint of nostalgia.

Paintings from the series Sea You at Dinner are on view at Bookstore De Koperen Tuin in Goes from October 31, 2025, to January 12, 2026.

THE JUNGLE KEEPS HER SECRET

There is something about this painting I still can't fully put into words. Maybe that's exactly what it was meant to be.

"The Jungle Keeps Her Secret" started as a feeling — that some people carry whole wild worlds inside them, and nature is the only thing that truly sees it. The monstera that leans into her face. The hummingbird that won't leave. The parrot with its wings spread wide above her like a crown she was always meant to wear.

I didn't plan any of it. It just became true while I was painting.

I hope she stirs something in you that you don't quite have words for.

‘Fruit Salad’ is a playful little painting from the Sea You at Dinner series, capturing the lighthearted spirit of summer gatherings. Colorful, sunlit, and full of quiet mischief. Technically it’s fruit, practically it’s wine, and honestly, it’s the best excuse to refill your glass.

This small work celebrates the warmth of shared moments, the laughter that drifts between sips, and the way something simple can become a memory.

Paintings from the series Sea You at Dinner are on view at Bookstore De Koperen Tuin in Goes from October 31, 2025, to January 12, 2026.

Shell we Dine?

‘Shell We Dine’ captures the quiet magic of a table after a coastal meal, where light and colour tell their own story. Sunlight passes through a glass, casting warm, transparent reflections across the tabletop, highlighting crumbs, shells, and the subtle textures of everyday objects. The painting uses soft, summery tones. Sandy beiges, gentle blues, and muted yellows. Evoking the warmth of Zeeland evenings and the calm, lingering light of the coast. Each detail, from the scattered shells to the glow on the glass, adds to the sense of intimacy, humour, and nostalgia that defines the Sea You at Dinner series.

Paintings from the series Sea You at Dinner are on view at Bookstore De Koperen Tuin in Goes from October 31, 2025, to January 12, 2026.

‘Open Up to Me’ presents oysters fresh from the sea, resting on melting ice, with lemon slices ready and glasses catching the soft midday light. The table invites a moment of pause — to slow down, savour each taste, and enjoy the subtle rhythm of a shared meal. A knife lies ready, hinting at the next secret about to be revealed, the next conversation waiting to unfold.

The title Open Up to Me carries a playful double meaning. On one level, it refers to the oysters on the table, literally being “opened” to be tasted. On another level, it evokes the intimate, conversational atmosphere of the scene. An invitation for guests to share secrets, stories, and personal moments. The title perfectly reflects the series’ focus on tables as storytellers, where both food and conversation reveal hidden layers.

Bitter Sweet

‘Bitter Sweet’ captures the bold, unapologetic character of a Negroni — a drink that rarely stays silent. With its deep amber tones and glimmering reflections, it doesn’t just sit quietly on the table; it seems to lean forward, ready to spark conversation, laughter, and maybe a little disagreement too.

This painting, part of the Sea You at Dinner series, celebrates those lively moments that happen when people gather — when stories spill, voices overlap, and personalities come alive. The Negroni becomes both a symbol and a participant, embodying the mix of bitterness and sweetness that defines honest connection.
