Silent Connections

This series focuses on the power and emotion of animals, captured in charcoal portraits. In these portraits, the animals gaze directly at you, with eyes full of expression and feeling.

The deep black-and-white contrasts enhance their presence, making their soul almost tangible. My goal is not only to capture their appearance but to create a moment of pure connection – as if the animal is truly looking at you and telling you something. Each portrait invites the viewer to reflect on the silent yet profound relationship we share with these creatures, and how their emotions mirror our own. Through this connection, I hope to bring awareness to their beauty and vulnerability, while celebrating their spirit.

Nazar

"Eyes are the windows to the soul" – a concept that has been present in various cultures for centuries. They reveal emotions without words and create a direct connection between the viewer and the being.

In my charcoal portraits of animals, this eye contact is central. The intense gazes draw you into their world and make you pause to reflect on the soul behind the image. Through the play of light and shadow, depth is created that reveals more than just form – it makes the feeling, presence, and essence of the animal tangible.

'Nazar' is the beginning of this series, the starting point.

Fading Giants

In just 30 years, the giraffe population has decreased by nearly 30%. These gentle giants are silently disappearing, and if we don’t act, their beauty will only live on in memories and art.

Through my charcoal portraits, I aim not only to capture the soul and strength of these animals but also to raise awareness of their vulnerable existence. They deserve our protection—before it’s too late.

Hunters Eyes

Throughout Chinese and Taiwanese history, the tiger has always inspired both awe and admiration: its strength, its fierceness, its beauty, and the harmony of opposites. The tiger is full of life and embodies the spirit and drive to make progress and achieve goals.

This portrait fits perfectly within the series as it highlights the strength, determination, and symbolism of the animals, much like the direct gazes in my work. The idea of the 'hunter' comes together with the intense eyes of the tiger, which radiate both power and wisdom.

Monkey Business

‘Monkey Business’ reflects the intense connection between humans and animals. Monkeys share many of our behaviors and emotions, which is why they are often seen as a reflection of ourselves.

The gaze of the monkey in this portrait is not just a snapshot, but an invitation to look into its eyes and see ourselves. The intense eye contact reveals the deeper bond we share with these animals and evokes a sense of introspection – it's as if we are gazing into a mirror of our own emotions and nature.

Ursa Major

The Great Bear (Ursa Major) carries rich symbolism as a protective and powerful symbol. In many cultures, the bear evokes feelings of determination and wisdom, and its wise gaze radiates both strength and protection.

In mythology, the Great Bear represents stability, much like the animals in my work, including the tiger, which exude a quiet yet powerful energy. Just like the constellations, the gaze of these animals carries a deep connection, with their eyes symbolizing strength, protection, and timeless wisdom.

Pride & Power

‘Pride and Power’ showcases the powerful and confident gaze of the lion, radiating a deep sense of pride and strength. The lion’s eyes reflect unmistakable majesty and dominance, but also a quiet determination.

The portrait captures not only the physical strength of the animal but also the inner power that the lion embodies as the king of the jungle. The intense gaze evokes a sense of respect and admiration, reinforcing the essence of the series: a direct, emotional connection with the animals, revealing their inner world and conveying a sense of strength and beauty.
